How to Get Rid of Eye Sagginess and Eye Bags

half face photography of woman's eyeIt is said that the eyes are the windows to the soul, in which case, it’s important that their shutters look fresh and new!  However, as you age, your skin starts to tell the test of time and unfortunately, the eye area is one of the first areas to suffer.  Those shallow fine lines that crinkle at the corner when you smile somehow deepen and the delicate skin around the underneath of your eye starts to sag.  The eyelid droops too, and worst of all, when you don’t get enough sleep, dark circles and puffiness emerge in the eye bag area.  This is because the skin loses its elasticity as it ages.

Natural collagen stores begin to deplete from as early as your mid-twenties so it’s really important to protect the eye area with what it needs to stop those collagen stores all but disappearing and to keep eyes looking bright and youthful, from the outside in!  It’s not all doom and gloom though, there are lots of things you can do to restore a younger looking eye area.  Here are our top tips to get rid of eye sagginess and eye bags.

man and woman drinking water

Drink WaterYou’ve heard it all before but that’s because there is a lot of truth in good old H2O.  Your body needs water to hydrate itself; after all, 90% of it is made up of water!    The reason why water works is because it helps with lymphatic drainage, so it takes toxins and impurities out of the body while hydrating it at the same time.  It plumps out skin and stops it looking dry and parched.

The eye area is so delicate that it is susceptible to dryness, that’s why it sometimes looks a little crumpled.  Your first glass of water should be in the morning and it should be hot with a slice of lemon.  Then, move onto the cold or room temperature water. Don’t expect instant miracles, you need to persevere with water but if you do drink 2 litres a day, every day, you will see noticeable signs of improvement within just one month.

As a tip, if you put on sunglasses and look at the sun and you can still see it clearly then it is not strong enough to fight off those UVA and UVB rays. You need to look for polarized lenses which are designed to filter out harmful rays.

woman sleepingGet Some Sleep. Sleep is important for so many reasons.  Not only does it recharge your batteries ready for the day ahead, it allows your skin ample time to repair and rejuvenate itself.  That’s why when you wake up after a good 7 to 8 hours sleep, you look refreshed, brighter and often, younger!  When you don’t get enough sleep, skin looks parched, it sags more and lines are far more noticeable.  Eyes suffer the most.  They usually look puffier and dark circles are obvious.

So, go to bed at a reasonable hour, banish all screens at least an hour before bedtime to ensure you fall asleep quickly and get some shut-eye.  It’s also a good idea to use a silk pillow case as it doesn’t leave crease marks in your skin (especially around the eye-area).  Cotton or cotton blends do crease up and that’s another reason why you wake up with pronounced crinkles down one side of your face, especially if you sleep on one side!  Try and sleep on your back to stop those creases from happening at all.

third day beauty ageless eye creamInvest in a Good Quality Eye CreamYou cannot afford to skimp on your eye-cream.  If you don’t use eye-cream then the fact is your eyes will never look as youthful as they could.  A regular moisturizer won’t work either because it’s not designed for eye use.  It is just too heavy.

When you use your eye cream, take a small dot of cram and place it on your forefinger, then lightly tap it around the eye socket (above and below) and blend it very gently using small, circular motions.  We recommend our very own Ageless Eye Revitalizer. It is designed to tighten up the skin, especially where it’s lost elasticity.  You’ll notice a visible improvement in the appearance of dark circles and it de-puffs.  You can purchase it here.

fitness and dietLook at Your Diet. It matters what you put into your body as it shows on the outside.  Feed your body with fats, sugar and salt and your skin will look lacklustre, dehydrated, gray, tired and probably suffer with zits too!  Your eyes won’t shine, the skin around them will droop and generally you won’t be doing your skin or body any good whatsoever.

Reduce your intake of salt and hold up on the unsaturated fats.  Sugar is really bad for your skin too.  Your skin needs a diet rich in anti-oxidants.  Those are the vitamins that fight off free radicals (the skin’s major attackers such as the sun, cigarette smoke, industrial fumes to name a few).  A diet rich in green, leafy vegetables, colorful fruit, lean meat and fish will go a long way to beautiful skin and radiant eyes.  Fill up on spinach, curly kale, broccoli, oily fish, poultry, lean meat, strawberries, kiwis, blackberries, blueberries and other fruit and vegetables.

cucumber treatment on eyesUse the Cucumber TrickAll of the above is great, but when you’ve had a late night then it’s extremely likely those dark circles and puffiness will need an extra hand!  Try cold slices of cucumber straight from the refrigerator.  Place them over your closed eyes and lay down for ten minutes, until the coolness disappears.

This should instantly brighten your eye bag area.  Then, use a very good quality concealer beneath your eyes to disguise your bags.  Don’t overload – it will catch in any fine lines and make them more noticeable but with a little careful make-up trickery, you should be able to disguise grey areas well.
